Destination Shopshelf

Destination Shopshelf – Mixed media  – Lee Rapira 2018

Destination Shopshelf is a paradox. Complete with “free gift” its convenient, conveyor belt art that’s purchase-ready for those on the run. Although the bold lettering dazzle, the content and reading elements slow the viewer down, allowing its creative yet obnoxious self to sabotage your time. This is advertising in a nutshell. Similarly to Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (I shop therefore I am) 1987, Destination shop shelf lends mockery to consumerism. Its blatancy has no other interest other than being sold. So, is it art? Or is it mere objects destined for the shop shelf.
